Services:

The Animal Hospital provides a full range of services for your companion animal, including routine care, diagnostics, dental care, surgery, and a pharmacy. Additional services are provided by the Kennel, Beauty Meets the Beast grooming, and the RadCats NC hyperthyroid treatment center.

Routine Care:

The primary concern of The Animal Hospital is the health of our community's companion animals. Most of the treatments provided by our doctors involve routine and preventative care. These include the pediatric or annual examinations and vaccinations that are the human equivalent of childhood vaccines and annual check-ups with a family physician.

Other treatments performed by our doctors involve the curing of ailments that arise even in the healthiest of companion animals. Such a problem might be a skin condition, infected ears, diarrhea, allergies, minor wounds, joint pain, or any one of innumerable other ailments. Rest assured that our doctors can successfully treat most problems your companion animal might acquire. If the condition is beyond the scope of the Hospital's equipment or our doctors' expertise, then a doctor will refer you to one of the many specialists with whom we have a rapport.

The Animal Hospital also provides health certificates for domestic and international travel. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture validates travel certificates for 30 days, but most airlines require certificates be completed within 10 days of a flight. Additionally, each state and country has its own import requirements. For specific regulations, refer to the website of the US Department of Agriculture for information about domestic travel health certificates or international travel health certificates, or call the appropriate office of the NC Department of Agriculture:

Diagnostics:

The Animal Hospital maintains a variety of diagnostic tools to aid our doctors in treating your companion animal. In addition to routine diagnostics, such as blood panels, stool exams, radiographs (x-rays), and echocardiograms, the Animal Hospital also offers ultrasonography performed by Dr. Cynthia Godshalk of East Coast Veterinary Imaging.

Dental Care:

The Animal Hospital is equipped to provide routine dental prophylaxes (preventative care and cleaning), performed under anesthesia, for our patients. This is similar to the routine cleaning and polishing that humans receive from their family dentists.

Dental prophylaxes are usually scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays. Senior trained technical staff perform general prophylaxes under the supervision of a doctor, while doctors perform the most difficult procedures.

Surgery:

The Animal Hospital houses a spacious surgery suite on the second floor. We utilize a carbon-dioxide laser for most surgeries, which offers several benefits over the traditional surgical scalpel, such as less recovery time and less pain.

Surgeries are usually scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays, and most patients are able to go home later the same day. Our doctors perform the following surgical procedures:

  • neuter/spay
  • dew claw removal
  • feline declaw and tendonectomy
  • mass removal
  • orthopedics (minor)

Pharmacy:

Your companion animal must be a patient at the Hospital in order for our doctors to prescribe medication. If the Hospital does not carry a certain medication that our doctors wish to prescribe, then a doctor will phone that prescription to a pharmacy of your choice, such as CVS or Eckerd. Should your companion animal need a special formulation of a medication, then a doctor will phone that prescription to a compounding pharmacy, such as Triangle Compounding Pharmacy.
